Key Responsibilities

As an Acquisitions Development Specialist, you will:

Content Development

  • Identify New Topics: Monitor trends in Information Technology, such as emerging tools, methodologies, and frameworks, to identify high-demand publishing topics.
  • Develop Concepts: Collaborate with authors to refine their ideas into compelling and marketable book or digital resource proposals.
  • Proposal Support: Work with prospective authors to shape detailed project proposals, including chapter breakdowns, timelines, and market positioning.

Author Management

  • Recruit Authors: Reach out to IT professionals, educators, and industry leaders to propose authoring opportunities.
  • Build Relationships: Foster long-term relationships with existing and prospective authors, providing consistent support throughout the development process.
  • Onboarding: Guide authors through Sparkrena’s publishing process, from concept development to manuscript submission.

Market Analysis

  • Research Trends: Conduct competitive analysis to identify gaps and opportunities in the market.
  • Evaluate Potential: Assess the commercial viability and audience demand for proposed projects.

Collaboration

  • Coordinate Teams: Act as the primary liaison between authors, editorial teams, and marketing departments to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Feedback Loop: Gather and communicate feedback from internal stakeholders to authors, helping refine content ideas for market success.

Performance Tracking

  • Project Oversight: Track acquisition and development projects, ensuring they remain on schedule and within scope.
  • Data-Driven Decisions: Use analytics and feedback to refine acquisition strategies and improve overall project performance.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

Education and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in Publishing, Communications, English, Business, or a related field (a technical background is a plus).
  • 2+ years of experience in acquisitions, editorial, or content development roles in the publishing industry.

Skills

  • Strong IT Interest: Knowledge of current and emerging IT trends (e.g., AI, cloud computing, cybersecurity).
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional ability to connect with prospective authors and internal teams.
  • Analytical Mindset: Ability to evaluate proposals for market potential and alignment with company goals.
